Royal Wedding vs. Real Wedding

This Friday the whole world will be watching as Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot. Exactly three weeks later, my close family and friends (and whoever creeps on my Facebook photos) will see me marry my sweetheart. Here’s a comparison of the royal wedding to a real one.

Royal Wedding

The office of the Lord Chamberlain mails gold embossed invitations to 1,900 guests

Guests donate to one of 26 charities

Processional in horse drawn carriage to Buckingham Palace

Every wedding detail is broadcast on TV, in newspapers and in magazines

Two wedding cakes

Figurines of Kate Middleton available for purchase

Nuptials aired live on television and on YouTube

Real Wedding

Assemble invitations with glue dots and mail to as few guests as possible

Guests donate to bride and groom charity

Processional through craft store filling carriage with favors on sale with coupon

Even grandma is sick of hearing about flower arrangements

Cupcakes arranged to look like a cake

Figurine of bride kicking groom in tush on uppermost cupcake

Sucker unlucky friends into watching wedding video

  1. This is pretty funny… best wishes to you with the “real wedding”, which will be more fun than the Royal one I’m sure.

  2. Thank you! We hope so.

Nice post with a sense of humor to bring everyone back to earth. I wrote a similar piece (not a blog entry) comparing our elopement to Sedona in 2005 to Rachael Ray’s giant wedding in a rented Tuscan Villa the same month. Cheers to you and your guy. Happy wedding and may everything go well, or if anything goes wrong, I hope it becomes a story that you can laugh and laugh about for years.
